The Vision of Deaf Health Champions:
A future where every deaf person has full access to health services, an excellent patient experience and the information to make healthier lifestyle choices.
Deaf Health Champions Project has now ended as of 31st December 2015. Details of the three year project can be found below.
Why the project has been funded:-
Deaf people, particularly Deaf British Sign Language (BSL) users, are chronically excluded from health and social care decisions and have much poorer physical and mental health than hearing people. Communication is often the biggest barrier to accessing health and social care. The new healthcare structure provides the deaf people and the culturally Deaf community with an opportunity for meaningful engagement.
Who was involved?
The project was a 3 year partnership of the UK Council on Deafness, Sign Health, Manchester Deaf Centre, Merseyside Society for Deaf People and Deaf Vision Cumbria.
